WorkSleepWorkSleepWorkSleep… June 16, 2009

Hey everyone!

So I know it’s been a while…about a month it looks like.  As the title might convey, all I really have had time for is work and sleep.  Because a lot of college program kids left last month, we have been shorthanded at my work location and I have been pulling 10-12 hour shifts almost every day.  It has been exhausting, especially since the weather has only gotten hotter and the crowds have only gotten bigger and angrier.  So I apologize for that!

I went to visit my parents and brother in Maryland a couple of weeks ago.  We had a really nice time, and now I miss them all even more!  We went to DC for the day, walking the mall and seeing a couple of the Smithsonians.  I loved the National Gallery of Art.  If I get to go again, I really want to spend time in the wing with all of the older paintings.  They are stunning, to say the least.  I did get to see the only Da Vinci painting in America.  It’s small, but beautiful.  We also stopped in at the American History museum, which was cool since we were celebrating Memorial Day.  Then the next day we went to another art museum (again, some really wonderful pieces in there, as well as some really weird ones in the modern section) and we went to church.  We also saw Night at the Museum, which was cool, since we had seen some of the things featured in the movie.  Like I said, it was a really good weekend, and a wonderful break.

I started my Creativity class and so far, I really like it.  The teacher is awesome–she recognizes that attention spans can only take so much, so she puts playdough and colored pencils out on the tables.  She is a creative consultant and is pretty high up in the Disney company.  Every class has been pretty interesting so far–we learn about how creativity can be used to be more productive and more successful.

I got a new roommate, the old one, Alexis left unexpectedly.  This was probably for the better, since that relationship soured quite a bit.  Not gonna go into details there, but the new one is named Erica and is a big improvement.  She works over at the shop for Splash Mountain.

We have a bit of a millipede problem in our apartment.  Which is just awesome, we get to kill about…15-25 every day.  Ew!  I have complained a few times to the front desk, but the exterminators still haven’t done anything.  Until they do, we bought another can of bug spray and a new vacuum that sucks them right up.

Let’s see…I do have a few stories from work that stand out:

  • I did make some magic for a couple of little girls.  Every month, we get a “pixie dust” pin from our managers.  Basically, it is a pin with TInkerbelle that is cast exclusive.  We’re supposed to hand them out to some deserving guest.  One day, I was at fast pass for the Little Mermaid, and saw that the girl there was sobbing.  I asked her what was wrong, and her mom told me she was terrified to see the show because of Ursula.  I knelt down and told the little girl that Tinkerbell didn’t want her to be scared and that she had flown down and given me something special to give to her.  I told her that as long as she had it with her in the show, Ursula wouldn’t be able to get her because Tinkerbell would protect her.  I then had her close her eyes and gave her the pin.  She stopped crying immediately, and they all went into the show, thanking me.
  • Another time, outside of Playhouse, a little girl lost her princess pin and I helped replace it with the pixie dust pin by telling another little story about Tinkerbell.  So those were both very good days, because I felt like I really did make some magic for people.
  • There is a weird showkeeper who has been giving me his number whenever he sees me.  He is a little creepy and incredibly awkward to talk to, so that has been interesting.
  • Today I signed up on the cross-training list, in hopes of training over at Animation or Toy Story Mania.  Cross your fingers for me!

We had Star Wars weekends at Hollywood Studios for the past few weeks.  I went on the last day to meet the character Darth Vader.  It was a 90 minute line, but it was worth it!  He was so intimidating though.

I rode the Rock n Roller Coaster for the first time.  Man, it goes fast!  I had tears on my face after the ride because my eyes had watered so much!  Definitely one of my favorites though, it is incredibly fun.

Hmmm…other things…A bunch of us went to go see “Up” when it came out.  If you haven’t seen it yet, go see it.  It really impressed me–it’s a very emotional movie, despite the fact that it’s animated.  Pixar’s done it again!

Well that’s all I can really think of for now–my friend Nichole is coming to visit this week with her mother, and then my parents and my grandmother are coming the week after that.  I can’t wait to see everyone!

I miss you all, and I will try not to wait so long between blogs to upate!  As always, thanks for reading, and…

See ya Real Soon!
