Character Stalking/Days Off May 12, 2009

Hello everyone!  Sorry it has been awhile since I have updated, I have lost track of time a little.

Last week, on Friday, Hollywood Studios was celebrating its twentieth anniversary.  I had the day off, so I was really excited to go to the park and experience all of the celebrations.  It was really cool–they had a lunch prepared just for Studios cast members in one of the backstage soundstages.  Just being in there was awesome.  It was basically a giant warehouse filled with props and posters from around the Studios.  I went with Adam and Shannon, who had to work later.  They had some characters out just for cast members–I took my picture with Director Mickey Mouse and Stitch, from the movie Lilo and Stitch.  They also had Woody and army men from Toy Story there.  The food was free and it tasted pretty good–we even got a little ice cream bar for sundaes.  We also all got a free t-shirt that says “20th anniversary cast member” so that was cool.  They then had a liquidation sale just for cast members in another building.  I got a watch that was originally priced at $65 for under $20.  After lunch, Adam and Shannon had to go, so I went to a session for cast members that was being hosted by the Imagineers.  It was basically a discussion about the history of the park.  I was definitely a little star struck though; the executive vice presidents were sitting six feet away from me!  It was awesome–I was probably drooling a little haha.  These are guys that I have read about and watched on special features for DVDs.  After the session (which was hosted in the backstage animation building), I went into the park and took a couple of drawing classes.  We drew Goofy and Steamboat Willie.  It was really a fantastic day–one of the best that I’ve had here so far.

Let’s see…On another day off, Mark, Adam, Shannon, and I decided to go character stalking.  In other words–we went to get autographs and get our pictures taken with characters.  Very little kid-ish, I know, but it was really fun.  We went to Animal Kingdom and met Meeko, Rafiki, Brer Rabbit, Tigger, Pooh, and Eeyore.  We also watched the Lion King Festival, It’s Tough to be a Bug, and the parade, and rode Everest, Dinosaur, and Primeval Whirl.  It was really hot that day, not gonna lie.  It has definitely been heating up lately, which is depressing since I know it’s not gonna get any cooler anytime soon.  Which means July and August are going to be super hot.

Yesterday, I was off and went to Studios with Mark and his friend Andy.  We watched Lights, Motor, Action! and rode Tower of Terror.  We then waited for Fantasmic, which was really awesome, and rode Toy Story with Julian.

Other than those days off, I just have been working.  It has been pretty good, just very hot.  Polyester is not a fun thing to wear when it is 90 degrees and 100% humidity.  I did attend a couple of training classes for work, called Safety in Motion and Disney Service Basics.  A bunch of my coworkers are about to leave as their college program is ending this week.  Some I am sad to see go, others, I can’t wait.  There are some people who just should not be working for Disney, if you get my drift.

In about two weeks, I will be visiting my family in Maryland for Memorial Day, so I am looking forward to that immensely!  I will be seeing my parents and my brother.

My class (Creativity and Innovention) starts this Thursday, so I am excited and anxious for that–I will let you all know how it goes.

That’s really it for now–I miss everyone so much!  I also miss the dry climate of Colorado.  Hope everyone is doing well, I will try to update soon!

As always–See ya Real Soon!
